Life and Death

Spring…Winter is releasing its icy grip, plants are growing again, the birds singing more loudly and are preparing for the new nesting season and frogs and toads are spawning starting the next generation.  Of course, there’s a reason why they lay so many eggs – they’re near the bottom of the food chain as demonstrated by one unfortunate frog, who only days before would have been apart of the spawning mêlée.

This Heron patiently stalked the reed beds when it found this frog.  Although the frog didn’t give up without a fight, the tussle was brief once the Heron had grabbed it, giving it a quick rinse in water before swallowing it down!
